ABOUT

Liza Butts is a painter and printmaker born in Birmingham, AL where she currently lives and works. She attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts and then received her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was awarded the Hazel H. Huntsinger Memorial Prize in Painting. Liza’s works have been exhibited at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in NYC, Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, the Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art, Ground Floor Contemporary in Birmingham, AL, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, and the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, AL among other places. As a printmaker, she has worked at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in NYC and at the Island Press in St. Louis, MO. She has participated in the New York Arts Practicum Residency Program and was an artist-in-residence at Brooklyn Arts Space in Brooklyn, NY. A monograph was filmed by Alabama Public TV and aired on PBS about her studio practice, and was included in the 2023 Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, AL.
